Weddings at Bitterne URC

Congratulations on your engagement!

A welcoming and joyful place to begin your married life together. Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony or a full celebration with family and friends, we’d love to help you mark this beautiful moment.

Welcome to your Wedding Day!

We are delighted to host weddings for:

  • Couples marrying for the first time
  • Couples where one or both partners have been married before
  • Same‑sex couples
  • Couples who live outside the local area
  • Couples with or without children

Our aim is to help you create a ceremony that feels meaningful, relaxed, and truly yours.

A URC wedding is a Christian service where two people make lifelong promises before God, their loved ones, and their community.

A typical service includes:

  • A warm welcome and gathering
  • Bible readings
  • A short reflection
  • Your vows
  • Exchange of rings
  • Prayers and blessing
  • Signing of the marriage schedule (legal document)

You can personalise the service with:

  • Your choice of readings
  • Favourite hymns or music
  • Personal touches that reflect your relationship

We’ll work with you to shape a ceremony that feels authentic and joyful.

1. Get in touch

Contact our church secretary to check availability and talk through your hopes for the day.

2. Meet with the team

You’ll have relaxed conversations with the minister or celebrant about preparation for the service, your vows, and the legal requirements. This includes a few marriage‑preparation sessions, offering space to talk about expectations, shared values, and the future you’re building together.

3. Arrange the legal paperwork

You’ll need to give notice of marriage at your local Register Office. Please contact: [email protected] and they’ll guide you through what’s needed.

4. Plan the service

Choose readings, music, hymns, and any symbolic elements you’d like to include.

5. Rehearsal

We’ll arrange a rehearsal so everyone feels comfortable and confident.

6. Your wedding day

A joyful, meaningful ceremony surrounded by the people who love you.

We’d be honoured to be part of your story.

Can we get married here if we don’t live locally?

Yes. You are very welcome to marry at Bitterne URC even if you live outside the area.

Can we have a blessing instead of a wedding?

Yes. If you’ve already had a civil ceremony, we can offer a Marriage Blessing.

Can we personalise the service?

Absolutely. You can choose readings, music, and personal elements that reflect your story.

Is photography allowed?

Yes — photography and video are welcome at agreed moments in the service.

What if one of us has been married before?

You are welcome. We are happy to conduct weddings for couples where one or both partners have been married previously.

How many guests can we invite?

Our worship space can comfortably accommodate up to 120 guests.
