Family Memories at Butlins: A Holiday Reflection

Message from an Elder – November 2025

Dear Friends,

I am writing this whilst on holiday with my grandsons at Butlins, Bognor Regis. Many of you, like me, will have many childhood memories of holidays or day trips.

Butlins has changed a lot to keep up to date, but has still kept many original features; fair rides, redcoats, copper machines etc, the same. But now there are modern hotels and electronic games venues. Shows too, which included a group of Kenyans who were being sponsored performing gymnastic/ acrobatics in part of one of the shows & another, Animals & Mythical beasts, which included a tribute to Sir David Attenborough amongst endangered animals & a man called Moses from Uganda making it his life to protect Pangolins with the help & support of Butlins & the Animal Guyz group. So far saving 160 of these lovely animals. A lovely, light hearted and informational show for all the family.

It set me thinking as I look around, how families large & small, from all walks of life are here. Young & elderly, fit & unfit, but everyone is helping each other, being polite, caring & kind, from what we have seen & experienced.

This is what our Father in heaven would love us to be. As can be found in Philippines 2 v4 which says to look not to your own interests but to interests of others & Peter 3 v8 Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate & humble. We can certainly see that here & I pray you can too amongst your daily lives with all the things that you do & see, especially the things that are happening with family, friends & all around our world today.

God bless, Sue S.
